Now that you’re all maybe starting to think about your summer holidays, it might be an idea to think about ordering one of these cool bikinis with a built-in UV meter, especially if you’re a sun and sand type like me.

We’ve already featured a hand held UV meter on Coolest Gadgets, but the SmartSwim Bikini from Solestrom is the world’s first bikini to have a meter built into the fabric.

The meter is battery-powered with a lifetime of up to two years; and is waterproof of course! The UV meter displays an intensity “level” of ultra violet intensity on a scale from 0 to 20.

A person’s sensitivity to UV depends mainly on skin type, but as a general guide a level of 3-5 would be considered a moderate UV strength, with 8-10 being “very high” and anything above 11+ being extreme.

I had a look around the site to see if there were any men’s swimming trunks with a UV meter, but alas Solestrom only seem to offer products for women.

The SmartSwim Bikini costs about $170, but bear in mind that the stand alone UV meter we already featured cost around $25, and wasn’t waterproof.

Imagine if you were to chop off Johnny Five’s head and put him on your dashboard. I realize that sounds gruesome, and I’m sure someone actually did that at the end of the original Short Circuit, but just imagine that cute little head on your dash having loving expressions, and showing you the way to go home.

This is essentially the role of AIDA (Affective Intelligent Driving Assistant). This robot head not only serves as a GPS Navigation system, but it actually has expressions. It’s eyes will look happy when you’re going the right way, and become a warning sign when you are not. There is a video of this intriguing concept after the jump if you aren’t already sold on it yet.

AIDA is more than a navigation system, though. It is intelligent enough to remember where you have been, and from this information determines your driving habits. It uses a lot of sensors to gather intel, and will even let you know when you’re low on gas, and where is the best place to stop for gasoline on your way.

AIDA is still concept for now, and is under development by MIT SENSElab, MIT’s Media Lab’s Personal Robots Group, as well as the Volkswagen Group of America’s Electronics Research Lab.

Is Sony's egg cracked? Japan never ceases to amaze me with its abundance of new gadgets. The most recent gizmo to come from Japan, the Sony Rolly, is no exception.
Unveiled on Monday, the Rolly is an egg-shaped music player that can flap and rotate its robotic wings, gyrate across the floor, and spin up a storm amidst a neon show of green and blue lighting.

In addition to playing back music from its internal memory the Rolly can also receive music streamed via a Bluetooth connection.

As far as I'm concerned the best part of the Rolly is its reported ability to analyze music and come up with the dance moves. Users can even program the Rolly's moves themselves.

The gadget is small enough to fit in your hand and comes standard with 1GB of internal memory (some 500 songs, though programing the Rolly with more complex dance moves will diminish that capacity), stereo speakers, and a five hour battery life.

It goes on sale in Japan on September 29 for equivalent of about $353 U.S.. No word whether it will make to the U.S. for sale. My fingers are crossed it will.

While it is based on the toys made in the early 80’s by Hasbro (Thank you Hasbro!) However the writing crew did a great job binding together a story that parallels the atmosphere of the original Gen I Transformers, while bringing new, and clearly up to date ideas to the big screen

and introduce a whole new generation to the joys of Peter Cullen and his voice (hint, he sounds a lot like Optimus Prime).

You’re probably wondering also, did they make good looking robots?

Are there ridiculous Michael Bay explosions, battles, and chase scenes?

Did I nearly blow out my kidneys so I could stay and watch the whole movie?

Well of course, the answer is D, all of the above.

A few words about the new stars in it who you’ll be seeing waaayyy too much in the near future.

Megan Fox…wow, she seems nice.

Can you say really funny scenes that you don’t expect…(on purpose, not accidental…I’m looking at you Underworld!)

You’ll also gain an entirely new appreciation for eBay (watch…then you’ll know).

Oh yeah…and yes, it’s a deluge of GM vehicles, but you will want the new Camaro by the middle of the movie too.

One final note that’s pretty important…

THE ROBOTS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! (I cannot repeat this enough).

These effects are simply staggering not since Jurassic Park has anything put you on your ear where you forget there are effects and treat the effects as actors (Yoda and Smeagol I know).

Thank you Mr. Bay and Mr. Spielberg for not screwing up the good memories of my childhood. Oh, and I have one request – How about a little Wheeljack next time!!!

GreenEye is compatible with PC and MAC software, which communicates with the global database and creates a profile of products purchased over time. The user can also add products not tagged onsite and the information will compile a profile over time of the user's ecological footprint and make suggestions for better product choices.

GreenEye looks and functions as a magnifier on a necklace. The gadget is connected to a cord by a USB connector clip. The cord is actually the battery called Organic Radical Battery and is ultra-flexible and environmentally friendly (it does not contain any harmful metals).

The GreenEye main body is manufactured either from injection-molded, recycled thermoplastics or made from various recycled metals from aluminum to precious metals. Users have a choice in its manufacturing and choosers of the precious metal option are guaranteed that the product will be recycled properly and purely to the value of material itself.

At the end of its life, if not recycled, it can be reused as a quality magnifying glass.

Dude, can I crash on your Athena Sofa?

Normally, when you spend the night sleeping on your friend’s couch, you’re usually in for a second-rate experience. I mean, the best you can hope for is that it folds out into a bed.

In the case of the Athena sofa, I could easily make it into an office. I mean, it has an LCD in each armrest that are integrated by a multimedia PC.

As you can see, these screens pop out of the armrests itself and flatten themselves out when not in use. (I wouldn’t rest my coffee cup there, though. At least not without a coaster.)

I see that one of them has a keyboard, but if they were touchscreens, then I’d have a fun time running all my operations with Windows 7.

The Athena sofa also comes with an iPhone and iPod dock, and a set of hidden speakers that include an 8-inch subwoofer.

Like I said before, I could easily live here. I would imagine that after a few days, I would de-evolve into a giant single-cell organism and be the first actual couch potato.

Of course, there is a price to pay for such comfort. In this case, the price is about $15,436. I’m assuming that is the price without the moving cost.

Having your tunes with you outside by the pool or in the hot tub is pretty cool, but any wired solution is either to much work, or to expensive. Fortunately for you, wireless speaker systems have gone down in price and going up in quality.

The ZipConnect Wireless Outdoor Speakers are great for using outside, especially with your iPod, but it works with any MP3 player, CD player, and even satellite radio, it just needs a headphone jack.

The set comes with two speakers, which are weatherproof, which does not mean they are waterproof. Don’t expect audiophile quality sound, but it should be enough, and there’s bass boost, but that’s about as advanced as the options get.

Your iPod is housed in a little box, also weatherproof, that has the ZipConnect Module, which will connect and charge your iPod, but will also connect any other MP3 player.

The included wireless remote allows you to control volume, and auto-scan frequency tuning. The remote is powered by 2 AA batteries, the speakers, however, require much more power; you’ll need 6 C batteries/speaker or use the included AC adapter if you’ve got a plug handy.

The wireless part operates at a 900 MHz frequency, and the device has a range of up to 150 feet, but for the best quality, the closer is the better.

The old saying goes that “everything is bigger in Texas.” Well, that couldn’t be more true for the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium which promises to be the largest stadium ever built, with the largest support arches ever constructed, and doors that open on each end that could fit a DC-10 lengthwise and still have room for a forward pass over the middle.

At a glance, the specs of this new stadium shows that team owner Jerry Jones is “sparing no expense.” The arch foundations will have 25-foot-high abutments and be anchored up to 70 feet underground. The Empire State Building could fit underneath them with plenty of room to spare. In addition, there will be an amazing 86-foot-high glass exterior where the clear glass paneling will be pelted with ceramic dots that will create a blue and gray translucence as the sun moves through the sky. The Stadium will sport the largest high definition LED displays in the world which will span from in between the 20 yard lines – that’s 60 yards, folks. There will also be over 3,000 smaller HD LED screens all around the stadium, including personal televisions in every locker for the athletes. There will also be independent power outlets, broadband data ports, and ceiling recessed projectors for team meetings during half time.

But the big ticket items will be the field level suite boxes and VIP areas right on the 50 yard line. The major selling point being that players will pass through the club VIP area as they make their way both on and off the playing field. Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts. In addition, there will be over 300 private luxury suites – 50 of which that will circle the field at ground level (which is baffling considering ground level is the second worse seat in the house). Guests will be able to walk right onto the field during the game and stand right behind the teams.

There will also be a retractable roof which will open and shut within 12 minutes, nearly 1,000 concession stands, and end zone party sections that will seat up to 10,000 for concerts and other special events. Cost to build? $1.1 BILLION DOLLARS making it the most expensive stadium in history. It’ll open in time for the 2009 NFL season and will seat over 80,000.

A great friend of ours, Phil Yeh (Marketing Executive) got us a meeting with the wizards at Alter-G, the cutting edge company making the gravity defying treadmill called the G-Trainer. Cellphones, iPods and other media players are designed to be pocketed, so you can be a little rough on them during the cleaning process. A very slightly damp cloth or paper towel will remove whatever fingerprint or residue your shirt or jeans won't.

As much as these gadgets are intended to live in pockets, they have an irritatingly high number of places for dust to hide itself. Cellphones have keypads, or, increasingly, sets up buttons at the base of a touchscreen or on the sideof the handset, all of which give dirt a place to accumulate. The grilles over cellphones' mics and speakers is another refuge for sludge, and they're totally immune to simple wipedowns. For this, you've got to go one step further. Luckily, you've probably got all the supplies you need in your house already.

Wooden toothpicks and old toothbrushes help reach into cracks and crevices, like those around buttons or running around the perimeter of some display panels. (Samsung and HTC are particularly guilty of leaving spaces in places like that.)

Sometimes, as in the case of the tiny little mic/speaker grilles on some phones, you don't want to push dirt in, but rather pull it out. For those situations, lay a strip of scotch tape over the afflicted area, run your finger over it a few times, and pull it off. If that doesn't work, upgrade to duct tape—though you'll want to be a bit more gentle with that, since applying too much pressure can leave adhesive on your device, which is a pain to wipe off.

Screen grime is the most common cleaning problem with laptops, and with the display cleaning section of this guide, we've got that covered. That said, laptops collect filth in a variety of other ways, and they can get real microbial, real fast.

To clean a typical keyboard—that is, a non-chiclet design—you've got three steps to try. First, use a damp cloth with the aforementioned 40/60 alcohol/water mixture, turn off the laptop, and run it across the keys. Fold it a few times and use the edge to reach between the keys. You can use this same cloth to clean the rest of your laptop as well, excluding the screen, but including the touchpad. If that doesn't do the trick, and you can spot some dust or hair in between keys, it's time for some canned air. You can pick this stuff up at most big box electronics stores or online for $10 or less, and using it is as simple as tilting your laptop sideways, and blowing air in the cracks.

If this doesn't work, it's time to start popping off keys. Since you're disassembling a keyboard that really isn't meant to be taken apart, there's a definite inherent risk here, but the results are practically guaranteed to be good. Here's an extremely thorough guide, if you're game for it. To give you an idea of what this entails, there's a point in this tutorial at which all your laptop's keys are swirling in a cereal bowl full of soapy water. It's gruesome.

Another problem area for laptops is fans, air intake vents and heatsinks. These all stand in the pathway between outside air and your processor, which needs said air to keep cool. Any blockage can cause your laptop to run hot, your fans to run high, and consequently, your battery to run low. Disassembly instructions will vary from laptop to laptop, and typically will involve removing your entire keyboard. Once you've done this, though, removing the dust is a matter of blasting with air, scraping with a clean toothbrush or even just wiping with your finger. It's not about total cleanliness here, it's about clearing your computers' windpipe.

Another helpful trick: Those white, last-gen MacBooks have a disgusting tendency to accumulate a beige (then brown, then black) residue where users' palm touch the laptop. This discoloration is more of a stain than a buildup, so you can't fix it with water or alcohol. The fix? Acetone. Seriously, the best way to wipe that crap off is with nail polish remover.
